Grunge rock band Nirvana entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during an induction ceremony on Thursday, 20 years after the world lost Kurt Cobain in 1994.

Inside New York City's Barclays Center, Nirvana's surviving members Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear played some hits with help from a few singers. Joan Jett, Lorde, St. Vincent and Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon took turns wailing on the mic.

Nirvana shared the night with fellow inductees KISS, Cat Stevens, Linda Ronstadt, Peter Gabriel, E Street Band and Hall and Oates. HBO will televise the celebrations along with the Nirvana performances, induction and speeches on May 31.

Below, we've rounded up seven emotional moments from Nirvana's big night.

1. Kurt Cobain's mom: 'I just miss him so much.'

"I'm probably going to cry. I'm already crying because he'd be so proud. He'd say he wasn't, but he would be. I just miss him so much. He was such an angel," said Kurt Cobain's mother, Wendy O'Connor, after Nirvana was inducted. Cobain was 27 when he died.

2. Courtney Love and Dave Grohl stopped fighting.

Courtney Love, who was married to Kurt Cobain when he died, put her years-long feud with Dave Grohl aside for this special night. They hugged. "The most magical part of the evening. Thank you Dave, love you," she tweeted. "I know this made him smile up there."

3. Joan Jett rocked out on 'Smells Like Teen Spirit.'

"I Love Rock 'n' Roll" singer Joan Jett performed the 1991 classic "Smells Like Teen Spirit" alongside Nirvana.

4. Lorde got glowing remarks from Nirvana bassist.

"She's intense. She's passionate. So she's perfect for the job," Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic said, introducing Lorde. "She has her whole future in front of her, too. Ladies and gentleman, Lorde." The 17-year-old sang Nirvana's "All Apologies."

5. R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe: 'Nirvana defined a moment.'

"Nirvana defined a moment, a movement for outsiders ... " R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe, who inducted Nirvana, said near the end of his speech that incited thunderous applause.

6. 24 years later, Kim Gordon helped Nirvana again.

Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon, who helped Nirvana sign a record deal in 1990, joined Nirvana onstage to perform "Aneurysm."

7. St. Vincent performed 'Lithium.'

St. Vincent sang Nirvana's "Lithium," a song about relationships, religion and suicide.
